Our Story
Why Spectrum Travel Was Created.Spectrum Travel was created by our family, for families like ours.We are a neurodiverse family raising children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, anxiety, and additional needs. For us, travel has never been simple. What many people see as a short journey can feel overwhelming when routines change, environments are unfamiliar, or support isn’t there. We know the stress that comes before a journey even begins. The planning. The worry about meltdowns, waiting times, unfamiliar drivers, noise, and feeling judged. The quiet hope that someone will be patient and understanding.Too often, they weren’t.That’s why we created Spectrum Travel.Spectrum wasn’t born from a business idea, but from lived experience. From countless journeys with our own children. From knowing first-hand what helps children feel safe, calm, and regulated and what doesn’t.We don’t just provide transport. We provide predictable, calm, SEND-aware journeys.Every trip is designed around the individual needs of the child and family. There’s no rushing, no pressure, and no judgement. Our drivers are patient, understanding, and experienced in supporting SEND needs. Our vehicles are thoughtfully equipped with comforts that genuinely help. Entertainment options, sensory supports, reassurance, flexibility, and choice. Because for many children, feeling in control makes all the difference. At Spectrum Travel, we treat every child as an individual and every family with respect. We understand because we live it too. We are parents first, always. Our mission is simple:To make travel safer, calmer, and more accessible for SEND families. To reduce anxiety for parents. And to turn journeys that once felt overwhelming into ones that feel manageable. This isn’t just our business. It’s personal. 💙
Our Family
At the heart of Spectrum Travel is our family. We are parents to four incredible children, each with their own strengths, challenges, and passions. Our lived experience as a neurodiverse family shapes everything we do, both at home and through Spectrum Travel.Kara (20) lives with autism, dyslexia, hypermobility, and a vestibular disorder. She enjoys spending time on her PlayStation and is currently completing an internship at Strawberry Field, where she is exploring her future and growing in confidence.Caitlyn (15) has autism, sensory processing differences, and feeding challenges. She loves watching her favourite TV shows and dreams of one day becoming a history teacher.Kaylee (13) experiences autism, ADHD, PDA, PICA, hypermobility, and anxiety. She has a deep love for animals and enjoys horseback riding and dancing, activities that bring her joy and confidence.Kiaran (3) is at the very start of his journey. While his nursery has shared some early concerns, he fills our home with laughter through his love of cars and dancing. gdd diagnosisAll of our children have multiple diagnoses, but these labels do not define them. They are unique, capable, and deeply loved exactly as they are.Recently, their mum Sarah also received her autism diagnosis. Embracing this has strengthened her connection with our children, giving her a personal understanding of their experiences and needs. Her journey of self-discovery has inspired our whole family to continue learning, growing, and supporting one another with empathy and compassion. We find joy in the simple moments. Sharing meals together, exploring nature trails at the weekend, and talking about our daily adventures. These moments ground us and remind us why understanding and patience matter so much.As a family, we are strong advocates for our children. We work tirelessly to ensure they have access to the support, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive, whether that’s through education, therapies, or simply being their biggest cheerleaders. This is our story. One of love, resilience, and togetherness. While challenges may arise, we face them as a family, knowing our bond is our greatest strength. We celebrate the differences that make each of us who we are, because we believe those differences enrich our lives in the most meaningful ways.
